Little Delaware Youth Ensemble to Perform Ninth Season Finale

The Little Delaware Youth Ensemble, under the musical direction of violinist Julie Signitzer, will present their final concert of the season on Sunday, June 7, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in Anderson Theater at Hartwick College in Oneonta

The string ensemble of 27 children ages 8 to 18 will perform pieces by Washburn, Warlock, Vivaldi and the ensemble's student composer Nathaniel Efthimiou of Delhi. The students will also play Bochicaniando, a piece arranged by Cellist Eugene Friesen from the Berklee College of Music. Friesen worked with the students of LDYE during his 2 day residency in Oneonta last month.

Soloists for this concert are violinists; Bethany Althaus and Nathaniel Efthimiou of Delhi, Takura Sophia of New Berlin and Nate Olmstead of Cooperstown. These talented young fiddlers will be performing the famous Four Violin Concerto in B Minor by A. Vivaldi.

Music Director Signitzer said, "This concerto for four violins is a special piece in the history of this orchestra. In 2004 Catskill Symphony conductor Charles Schneider invited me to present 4 members of LDYE to solo with the Catskill Symphony on this piece. That was a monumental event for our group and the four young violinists that were chosen. It is a pleasure to have that kind of talent in our orchestra and to be able to perform it once again on this June 7 program with a new generation of musicians."

The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the performance in the lobby of the theater. For further information please visit our web site at ldye.org, call 607-435-3857 or email littledelawareyouthensemble@yahoo.com.

This concert is funded in part by the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, the North Pond Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program administered in Otsego County by the Upper Catskill Community Center for the Arts.
